Not entirely. I think we're the only team that will give him the years he wants, and we can just as easily tell Boras to go f himself and go with plan B.epinephrine wrote:The Cardinals have played it well so far, but Boras has all the leverage when it comes right down to it. If Holliday has to hold out until opening day for a contract, he has that option. The Cardinals do not have that option. They need to look out for the best interest of the team, and either plan A or plan B have to be in place well before Spring Training. Where's the MS paint pics of Boras with devil horns? I am just being facetious.Socnorb11 wrote:Boras and Mo both have to know that if the Cards pull their offer off of the table tomorrow, then Holliday is probably looking at 5/75. Makes you wonder how long this game of cat & mouse will continue, and who will blink first.epinephrine wrote:yeah this is already overly stupid. just tell scott that once christmas comes and goes, he can have fun getting his 8 years elsewhere (which he won't).

I don't know, Manny got the contract he wanted and he didn't sign until March sometime. I probably should have included that I highly doubt it goes that long, the Cardinals aren't that desperate to sign the guy.Socnorb11 wrote:If Holliday holds out until opening day, do you think there's ANY chance that he'll get the type of contract that he's looking at right now? Do you really think that's to his advantage?
Lohse would be the most similar example that I can come up with right off hand, and he ended up signing for next to nothing.

Holliday has all the leverage right now, but he does also have the chance of leveraging himself right out of the contract he's dreamed of.
It's a risk/reward game, and how long do they want to play it. Same for the Cardinals...

Manny got nowhere near what he was looking for last year. He was originally wanting 5/$100M, and ended up taking 2/$45M or something. IIRC, Ned Colleti had a 2/$50M offer immediately after the World Series and Boras rejected it, and they ended up taking less money.epinephrine wrote:I don't know, Manny got the contract he wanted and he didn't sign until March sometime. Problem being that Plan B sucks unless the contracts given to Mike Cameron, Andy Pettitte, and possibly Rich Harden get invalidated for some reason. Boras knows that too.cards2468 wrote:Not entirely. I'm content with DeRosa for left and Beltre for 3b with Smoltz for closer or 5 spot in the rotationcpebbles wrote:Problem being that Plan B sucks unless the contracts given to Mike Cameron, Andy Pettitte, and possibly Rich Harden get invalidated for some reason.
