And I don't hate Boras at all. He's the best at what he does.
Greg Maddux took less money to play for the Cubs when he signed in 04. When the deal happened Maddux and Boras both discussed it with the media. At the time other teams were offering more money, but Maddux wanted to come back to Chicago.

He asked for an example and I gave him one. Not all Boras clients take max dollars. Athletes fire agents all the time.

I understand you're basing that on something he said publicly, but I'm skeptical. It might be true, but I find it hard to believe that Holliday isn't telling Boras where he'd prefer to play for the next 5-8 years of his career. How could you not care?
when you play in 3 very different places within a year, I doubt you develop much of a connection to any particular place. I don't see how he'd prefer St. Louis over another city, especially if St. Louis won't give him the longest contract.
I'm not saying St. Louis is his preference. Again, I'm not a close personal friend/relative of Matt's, so there's no way for me to know what he wants. All I'm saying is that he probably has preferences--and, if he does, he's conveyed that to his agent.
