I like Bernie's radio show the best, but I could care less about Ankiel, he sucked it up bad this year, he was terrible. Glad to see him leave.

Re: Bernie and Gordo
goold found some meaningless splits, gordon says the fans will clamor for a big name FA if holliday leaves, strauss said ouster for the 953rd time since jocketty left, burwell says holliday owes us since he murdered brett wallace and dropped a fly ball, and I'm still looking for bernie's column..
oh OK, yeserday, bernard asks (among other poignant and weirdly redundant questions): Was LaRussa to blame?
Was LaRussa uptight?
Did LaRussa burn his team out in September?

One thing I notice about Bernie - when he's covering an event that is in the national spotlight rather than just locally - he writes differently -overtly slick and cool -putting on airs for some national browsers.
Burwell and Gordo - I never read the text of their articles, the header tells me enough.

Re: Bernie and Gordo
I never am compelled to read Burwell's columns. For a while it bugged me-it must be a prejudice to never read them.
But I think it has more to do with the banal and simplistic titles indicating a column not worth reading.
(do these guys write their own headline?)

Rams could find a tonic at top of draft
Spagnuolo knows it can only get better
Next scandal will bring Woods relief
St. Louis Cardinals should spend wisely
Rams should show caution
MU youth show promise
Losing Holliday makes no sense
It's scary, but Rams have a chance 11/01/2009
St. Louis Cardinals should press McGwire to open up
Rams have a high mountain to climb in the rebuilding process
Cards need a 'yes' from La Russa

b. burwell is a simplistic goof so they prob. write his headlines to reflect that. i like him personally tho' he doesn't know anything about baseball.

Headline writers specialize in trite puns. Unfortunately, and I don't hate Burwell but..., his writing seems to fit the headlines nicely.thrill wrote:Generally no. That's the editors or paginators.Freed Roger wrote:(do these guys write their own headline?

Re: Bernie and Gordo
I remember writing Bernie a couple of times a long time ago in the age before the Innarwebs. I was complaining about the headline over some stories he wrote (Bernie Bits I think).
Anyway, both times he called me personally to apologize. Both times, he also conceded that he had little control over the headline. And, both times, I remarked how odd it was that an editor had no control over the header of a story.
Bernie's an interesting guy to talk to. He's just not that great of a writer.

Some hard hitting Gordon chat...
Sean B: What image is more memorable from the 2005 congressional hearing? McGwire not talking about the past, Palmeiro straight lying to Congress or Sosa forgetting how to speak English? Sadly, mine is McGwire eventhough he was alway honest.
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, that was a weird scene. "I'm not hear to talk about the past." Millions of fans will never forget that.
