These numbers are so big and ridiculous that none of it from my view is informed. 6/102 sounds the same to me as 6/gazillion billion million trazillion.withAloe wrote:I would think 6/102 (with a NTC and opt-out after year 3 or 4) would do the trick, but that's just speculation. Agreed, though Boras could and probably does lie. He'll tell you so-and-so offered such-and-such. You either believe him or you call his bluff.clevername wrote:right now based on what we've heard I wouldn't go over $18 million a year. We'd always have a chance to exceed any surprise team. It's not like Boras is going to get a surprise swoop offer and just accept it on the spot. He's going to go back to any other teams in on the discussions and give them a chance to give him even more.
If some team bids more than we're willing to absolutely give, then he's gone anyway. If another team swooped in, I'd probably stop at $20-21/year. But we've been waiting for this mystery swoop the whole time and it hasn't happened. Until it does, we shouldn't overpay if we don't have to.

If you change that ten to another sideways 8... I am down for it.TimeForGuinness wrote:LOL...I guess that puts Pujols at 10/sideways "8"whiterat24 wrote:These numbers are so big and ridiculous that none of it from my view is informed. 6/102 sounds the same to me as 6/gazillion billion million trazillion.withAloe wrote:I would think 6/102 (with a NTC and opt-out after year 3 or 4) would do the trick, but that's just speculation. With managers cut, agent fees, and taxes, the player ends up with about 40% of the money, but I do understand even that is a crazy number to fathom.

Sorry, I meant 5/98.5 vs 6/98.5.withAloe wrote:I would think 6/102 (with a NTC and opt-out after year 3 or 4) would do the trick, but that's just speculation. Not even informed speculation.
I was (mildly) complaining about 5/98.5. I haven't seen 5/85 mentioned anywhere.Michael wrote:Posters are complaining 85/5 is too high.

true, but he's probably also not their only source. I bet there are back channels that at least allow them some idea of whether teams are interested or not. They probably don't get contract specifics, but if they think a bigger team with money is legitimately interested they can safely assume their offer is at least around what Boras is telling them.withAloe wrote:Agreed, though Boras could and probably does lie. Right now it doesn't seem like any big money team besides the Cards are legitimately interested.

From Goold:
Since TLR rarely tweets, I wonder if this could be Mo turning up the heat on Boras.
From Goold:
Knowing TLR's love for the man, I hope plan B isn't Chris Duncan.“We’re getting ready to move,” La Russa told The Post-Dispatch. “I know they’ve been talking a lot with Matt. I know we have a really smart Plan B. … (It) could be on Plan A, or it could be our Plan B. The point is, we’re not going to get stuck.”

I would put a contract in front of Albert and ask him to fill in the years and amount. And have the mayor standing by with the keys to the city.MrCrowesGarden wrote:If you change that ten to another sideways 8...
