I'm guessing that Boras is looking for 5/100, 6/114 or 7/126 and we're offering around 5/85, 6/99 or 7/112.

this is handy: http://www.tangotiger.net/salary2008.html
based on the 2008 market anyway, most of the reports seem to have the Cards and Boras valuing Holliday as a 4.5 WAR player. The rumored offers of 5/100 and 8/140 don't line up so well.

Those(our offers) are numbers I'm comfortable with. Max.Richie Allen wrote:I'm guessing that Boras is looking for 5/100, 6/114 or 7/126 and we're offering around 5/85, 6/99 or 7/112.

Boris was initially hoping for 8/160. Of course, if you could tip him up to the 5.0 WAR, that number isn't that far-fetched. At least as a starting point.haltz wrote:this is handy: http://www.tangotiger.net/salary2008.html

What reports have the Cardinals valuing him at a 4.5 WAR player?

Everything suggests that they'd be willing to go $18M/yr for less years and down to $15-16 as the contract pushes 8 years or so.
So reading between the lines, I think that they are thinking along the 4.5 WAR line, which goes (in AAV terms) 18.2, 17.6, 16.7, 15.75
Now that's not to say that they don't think he's a 5.8 WAR player (like his Fan projection on fangraphs), and it's a soft market or that they are getting a good deal - just that's the column that lines up with the media report consensus and some of these offers like 8/140 don't make sense in light of that.
