Baldelli shouldn't come expensive at all. If there is reluctance based on his health, fine. But the money shouldn't be an issue. Waiting on him isn't a good thing. Sign him if there's interest.

The problem with Baldelli is if an OFer goes down with injury he can't fill in full-time. If he's signed, we'd still need another backup CFer.

if Raz went down, I think we'd call up Jay to fill in at center?Michael wrote:The problem with Baldelli is if a OFer goes down with injury he can't fill in full-time. If signed, we'd still need another backup CFer.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea.

Jay seems the obvious choice, but it appears that long-term he's better suited for LF. His arm apparently is pretty mediocre. He also bats LH (As do Jones and Adron Chambers, BTW). While Jay projects to be a high OBP guy, his lack of power and inability to play the premium OF positions probably relegates him to 4th OF status/super sub.

His arm is very poor...I love me some Jon Jay, but dude is a great 4th OF'er, but I'd rather not rely on him for a whole year. Of course, if Raz gets hurt, we can always make a move as well.

How's Daryl Jones's arm+defense?

Jones has a better arm, but he isn't a natural CF'er IMO. He's probably a LF'er in the bigs as well. Both are 4th OF types from what I've seen in person, but Jones especially, has some development left.withAloe wrote:How's Daryl Jones's arm+defense?

Jay's TotalZone in the OF pegs him as a terrific defensive OF. IIRC, he was almost +20 in CF in 2008.

My comment is in regard to his arm...which is very weak.Swirls wrote:Jay's TotalZone in the OF pegs him as a terrific defensive OF. IIRC, he was almost +20 in CF in 2008.
