Does Brendan Ryan have the potential of being an All Star SS
I think he does. It's his bat that needs work. What do you think?

It's not about potential, it's about results. His playing time has been inconsistent (not necessarily his fault), his bat has been mediocre, but his defense has been very good.
He has a better chance of getting a Gold Glove than being an All-Star. To be an All-Star SS he has to beat out Ramirez, Tulowitzki, Rollins, Escobar, Reyes , and other more talented all around shortstops.

No. He's just not going to hit enough. I see him as a slightly better hitting, but not quite as good fielding Adam Everett. Good D with a .670 -.700 OPS.

30 years ago, he'd be a potential All-Star. But since power's not part of his game, these days he has little chance, even if he hits .300 every season.

Yeah, his skill set is one of a very useful SS - especially at his price - but not one that's ever appreciated by all star voters.

Edgar Renteria made the all star team before
I think he has a shot at some point of being selected for the bench, maybe if he wins a GG and goes on to hit .300 the next season.

I dont think he'll be an All Star, but I think hes the sort of player the Cardinals need to win a championship.

I agree. He reminds a lot of Eckstein, except with better D. Think about it, if Eckstein didn't bat lead off, would he have been an All Star? If Ryan batted first, would he be an All Star?

Only if Hanley Ramirez, Troy Tulowitzki, Yunel Escobar, Stephen Drew and Jimmy Rollins die in a freak gasoline fight accident.cardslesson101 wrote:TheoSqua wrote:I dont think he'll be an All Star, but I think hes the sort of player the Cardinals need to win a championship.

He's unlikely to ever be voted in, but he may have a hot spring one year or two, and get selected for the bench.
