And even if Wallace becomes Lyle Overbay at the MLB level, that's probably still more valuable than a Michael Bourne clone.

I'm not really sure. After factoring in positional scarcity and defense, I think Bourne is definitely more valuable. My main concern is that Wallace is probably a good bet to become Overbay, while Gose is a long shot to become Bourne.

Are you being serious or just kidding?

Wade Davis is like a fast-forwarded version of Shelby Miller that doesn't flame out in the minors. He's, in a lot of ways, a best-case Shelby Miller scenario.

Over the last three seasons ('08-'10), Ludwick has a 126 OPS+; in that same span, Zobrist has a 123 OPS+. Ludwick is under team-control through 2011 (he'll probably make $8 million next year). Zobrist is under team control through 2014, and won't make $8 million once in that entire span. Zobrist is also a very versatile player -- he can play short, second, and left and right fields.

Motte wouldn't tip the scales at all. Pulling off a trade like that would be a Mulder-for-Haren-Calero-and-Barton-caliber fleecing.

lol I should've said Dennys Reyes to make it more clear I was being sarcastic..

There's not a lot of places the Cardinals can improve cause all the things we have valuable, we need..

The only chips we really have are Ludwick, Miller, Jay, Craig, a few bullpen pieces, and a couple of other minor leaguers that project to be either 4-5 starters, relievers, or a platoon/4th outfielder/back up infielder.

You can get something for that, but you'll probably only be able to fill one glaring hole with that. Not two.

Then again, based off the last two days, those things can apparently get you Ace pitchers..

I don't think so. They're a tough comparison because Overbay has been in the league so long that he has a legitimate body of work to look at. He was about a 2.5 WAR player for much of his career (4 of the last 6 seasons, and declining now). Bourne has a 4.3 WAR last year that sticks out like a sore thumb. He's at 1.6 WAR this year, so he has a chance to get to 2.0. Before that he was awful.

Add in the higher likelihood that Wallace becomes Overbay and the fact that Gose has a lot of work to do to become Bourne, it's not even remotely an even trade.

Then again, Wallace might be THAT bad defensively... Overbay was/is very solid at 1st.

I'm not really interested in debating about who's more valuable between Overbay and Bourn, so I'll just quote this and say that its the most important part; regardless of what you project them to become, Wallace is a much safer bet to reach that plateau. And so on that we definitely agree.

Wallace's 2010 MLE from minorleaguesplits.com is 239/289/384. He turns 24 in August and he's a not-so-good defensive 1b. He's roughly as valuable as the current version of Miguel Tejada.

I understand that he's having a bad year. I just don't understand how his stock can fall this far seemingly over night.

His stock wasn't that high a year ago when he was traded, along with two halfway-decent prospects, for two months of Holliday.
