So all we need now is a Greene demotion and I'll be correct. La Russa can be predictably nauseating sometimes.InvincibleCakeEater wrote:From Bernie's twitter
Westbrook will start Monday vs. Hou. Hawksworth mives to bullpen. Stavinoha callled up from Memphis.

Re: P.6 Ludwick to SD; Westbrook and Pads prospect to STL
Phone dies, two DVD players plugged into cigarette lighters, and I'm oblivious to the baseball world. I get home from a 20 hour road trip, turn my phone on, and have a text saying Cards trading Ludwick for Westbrook and a prospect. Had to wait to see the prospect is nothing.
My reaction: WTF, the Cards just reduced payroll in a pennant race and added a decidedly average arm for two months.
This trade, from a purely player fir player standpoint is indefensible. We needed to add a starting pitcher, but we've added a league average starter who should have an innings concern, for our 4th best hitter, on a team with offensive questions?
Awesome!

From Miklasz todayjagtrader wrote:I hope Freese comes back and is an .800 OPS third baseman as much as the next guy, but he's a 27-year-old rookie who hasn't played in a month and had one extra-base hit in June.Magneto2.0 wrote:fanforever wrote:and with Ryan and Schumaker as our keystone combo and a very light hitting catcher. I don't think winning with Pujols, Holiday, Rasmus, Freese is a miracle. That's better than most teams. Hard? Yes. Miracle though??
We're not the yankees, but we're not the Giants, either..
Also, it was pointed out in the KFNS link posted earlier that Luddy was leading the league in BA with RISP.
Given the mediocre offense being supplied by many of the members of the Cardinals infield, the team will need David Freese to come back strong from his ankle and foot injuries. But can he? Freese is batting .324 with runners in scoring position, and he's hitting .296 for the season. But he batted .258 with a .325 slugging percentage in his last 169 plate appearances going back to May 6. ...
So we have a shoddy defense, a team that has a problem scoring, and our leading RISP hitter traded.

Man... I was all optimistic about a Jay/Craig platoon. Instead, we're getting Stavy. How can they justify keeping him on the roster? It makes no sense.

Craig isn't available until Tuesday or Wednesday because he hasn't been down long enough.Fat Strat wrote: Man... I was all optimistic about a Jay/Craig platoon. Instead, we're getting Stavy. How can they justify keeping him on the roster? It makes no sense.
And that's why it's stupid to send him down for a reliever just because another reliever is unavailable for one [expletive] day.

Today Mo has succeeded in his quest to make the team worse.
What other goal can one surmise by the moves made today?

This was a dumb [expletive] trade. I mean, what the [expletive]? Ludwick's 2.6 WAR this year while Westbrook is 1.0 WAR. Further, Ludwick was under contract next year. further, he's no Pujols, but he's a key part of the offense. Further, WTF. how the [expletive] does Joe Saunders plus a bunch of [expletive] bring in Dan Haren and the Cardinals deal Ludwick for Westbrook straight up. Ludwick is better than the entire slew of [expletive] the Angels gave for Haren. [expletive]! I can't remember the last time I was this pissed at the Cardinals.

Even worse when you look at it from SD's perspective. They got Ludwick for a mid-level and an A-baller.

Exactly, it would be like us giving up Gorgen (if that high) and an A-baller for Alexi Ramirez.obucard wrote:AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:This was a dumb [expletive] trade. I mean, what the [expletive]?
