And no one would care if Luddy was manning RF at Jay's expense because no rational person wanted Jay starting. He's clearly a 4th outfielder.
P.6 Ludwick to SD; Westbrook and Pads prospect to STL

This. All the [expletive] [expletive] talk is willfully ignoring how much better Westbrook is than Suppworth.TGantz wrote:I appreciate what Ludwick did for us over the years, but this team doesn't rely on Ludwick. Our offense has been inconsistent even with Ludwick because Pujols isn't playing as well as he usually does. We can always find a decent outfielder with similar production as Ludwick. The bottom line is that the success of this team lies in the difference between 1st half Pujols and 2nd half Pujols, not the difference between Ludwick and Jay.
The addition of Westbrook gives us a rotation of Wainwright, Carpenter, Garcia, Westbrook, and Lohse which is much better than what we've had the last couple of months.

Over 50-60 innings, about what, 7 runs, if he improves?Vidor wrote: This. All the [expletive] [expletive] talk is willfully ignoring how much better Westbrook is than Suppworth.
How many runs is losing Ludwick likely to cost?

How much better he is than Suppan is irrelevant. How much better he is than a replacement-level player (To date, 1 win) is what matters, because that is the preferable alternative to Suppan.

Westbrook's improvement over Suppworth is probably matched by losing Ludwick, right?
Only difference is that Westbrook can walk while Ludwick is sorta held hostage for another year.
I have no statistics to back this claim but I have a hunch that Ludwick is more likely to continue being successful here than WB becoming Pineiro 2.0.

Well, this is just wrong. Suppworth is the player he's replacing.cpebbles wrote:How much better he is than Suppan is irrelevant.

Only because Mozeliak decided to trade a ~3 win player for a ~1.5 win player, rather than picking up some freely-available talent.

PeJon SmoltEz could match Westbrook without costing Ludwick.
Maybe not but they'll perform better than SuppWorth.
