What does this mean? You'll pay me a $1 million if it turns out it's true?
Concerning your first statement - Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday are pretty much the only players that don't get "shuffled". So should we assume that Larussa hates everyone else on the team except those 2?
It's also true of Molina, of course, since he obviously can't play everyday. But like I said, La Russa is an adult. If you want to stick words like "hate" into my mouth, then there's not much point in discussing this with you.

I wasn't trying to stick words in your mouth. It's just semantics. "Doesn't like" everyone else on the team....... is that better?

This more or less insignificant trade makes you ponder whether one of the greatest players of all time will re-sign with the Cardinals?

I don't see the connection.
Since you asked, I do feel a little sick about this trade, so then I got to thinking how I would feel if we lost Albert.

No reason to really feel "sick" about the trade. As I said, it will end up being almost insignificant, all things considered.
There's plenty of reason to feel sick about this trade. One, it was a bad trade overall and two, I appreciate what Ludwick brought to the team as our everyday right fielder for three years, both offensively and defensively at a great price.

Craig hit 2 homers for Memphis. Good.
Why can't Craig hit those homers for us... Please bring him up the first day he's available. You don't make this trade if you don't have big plans for Craig.

I firmly believe that he can, Fat. He hasn't been given a real consistent opportunity. As (I think) you've said before, he can be Ryan Ludwick at some point real soon. His minor league mashing isn't a fluke.
He'll have to catch the ball to be Ludwick. You like to ignore that aspect of the game.
When have I ever ignored that aspect?

We were discussing his bat. I guess I should have specified.

You'd better hope that somebody can be Ludwick, because even without the trade, he probably only had 2 months left as a Cardinal.
You ignore it all the time. Ludwick was an excellent defensive outfielder. Craig is a DH.

No, it's not insignificant. The Cardinals are extremely thin. Outfield is one of the few surpluses they have/had. Ludwick may have been traded in the winter for someone who could help for more than 10 games. They traded for next to nothing.

Ludwick may have been traded last off-season, or this coming off-season?

If he had been traded last off-season, then you would have seen a guy like Jay or Craig in right field all year.......... and that's pretty clearly not what you want.

This winter. When the return isn't [expletive] Jake Westbrook for 10 games.

And he was going to be gone in 2 months anyway. He wasn't going to be around forever.

Again, from a team improvement standpoint, it was more or less an insignificant trade.

Well, if we can get the rest of baseball to agree to suspend the 2010 season until the winter and pick it up after we trade for Westbrook, so we don't finish behind the Reds thanks to Suppworth dragging down the rotation, that would work.

Today made me think what it would be like if Albert re-signed but the payroll was kept constant. That would be even worse.

Albert re-signing but the payroll not going up would be worse tahn Albert signing somewhere else?
Yes. Then you are the Astros.
You're only the Astros if you consciously avoid investing money in the draft so you can spend it on Carlos Lee and Brandon Lyon. If you invest the money well, you can be the Braves.
Well yeah. But you have to be extraordinarily lucky/good at identifying and developing young players just to be in the mix every year. I'd rather not count on that.

Theoretically you could improve on Suppworth without giving up Ludwick (or any valuable trade piece for that matter).
