Boardwalk Empire fans, do you love Buscemi? I just don't buy him in the role. He doesn't seem like he's acting just being Steve Buscemi reading his lines and I don't find him interesting enough visually or vocally to go for that.
I guess I just don't care for him much at all.

Just watched the Dexter season premier and count me as very underwhelmed.

Re: TV Thread
Biggest problem with Dexter I'm going to have going forward is that it's ludicrous that nobody's put it together yet. Last season really pushed it on the coincidences and deus ex machina kind of stuff, though aside from that I think it was the best season since the first one. My understanding is that they know Dexter was at Trinity's house last season. If that's true, I think it's too much to ask of the viewer. Hopefully they wrap up this whole thing quickly and move on. It won't be realistic, but the suspense over him getting caught is the equivalent to infidelity on Mad Men. It's a case of the writers overextending their credit.

They don't know he was in Trinity's house yet, they don't know who he really was yet - just that reporter was his daughter. My understanding is that this season they will find out about the Kyle Butler thing and supposedly someone 'close' finds out who he really is (hmmmm any guesses whom?).ghostrunner wrote:Biggest problem with Dexter I'm going to have going forward is that it's ludicrous that nobody's put it together yet. Last season was definitely the best since the first, and I agree with you a little bit on the deus ex machina. It's getting a little out of hand, but at the same time there's little suspense if he's not about to get caught. And there's really not much of a show if he's caught, Draper's philandering is always a side story not such a big deal. But in Dexter, killing people and evading capture is the point of the show. I don't think his wiggling out of this one will be a season long arc, I think the point is more to see how he deals with being a single dad/deals with...that thing that happened in the finale.

It's been my biggest issue with the show from day one- the implausibility of a police department not catching him, especially with how sloppy he was last season. If they really want to do right by the show, IMO, they can string this along for two more seasons and then call it a day/end the series. That's the corner they've painted themselves into. Let Quinn have the lightbulbs go off this season, then gradually or whatever catch him next, end of series.ghostrunner wrote:Biggest problem with Dexter I'm going to have going forward is that it's ludicrous that nobody's put it together yet. I liked the first episode a lot.

Dexter was sloppier last season, but they also weren't looking for him as much as in Seasons 2 and 3.

I had heard this is the final season too, but I couldn't find anything on the net to verify it.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:I thought this season was the last one?JL21 wrote:It's been my biggest issue with the show from day one- the implausibility of a police department not catching him, especially with how sloppy he was last season. It wasn't really my problem since day 1, I thought not catching him Season 1 was perfectly reasonable (they weren't really trying to except the boy in the junkyard). There were a few groaners in there, season 2 with Lilah/Doakes, the cameras, etc - acceptable once in a season dedicated to finding him, Smits in 3 was a little unlikely. He did get really sloppy in 4, but they were more worried about Trinity and it hasn't just been fixed yet.

i dont disagree that hes essentially just being "buscemi", but i like him as an actor and have accepted that...what i dont care for, is seeing buscemi have sex

I'm loving Buschemi in Boardwalk. I think he fits the time and the role. I believe him.
