Isn't Otto a little old for Palm Beach? I don't claim much knowledge about minor league trends, but I was looking up Otto, Rasmus and Garcia and saw that Colby and Jamie were both a year younger than Otto, yet both were in Springfield while Adam was at Palm beach.
When can we expect these three to move to their respective next levels?
I would think that you would want Colby and Jamie to end the year in AAA, and start next year there as well while having Adam spend a good portion of the year in AA.
I'm not sure if Rasmus and Garcia will end the year in AAA. There's a gigantic logjam still, and at least three of the guys in the Memphis outfield (Rodriguez when he's healthy) could supplant Preston Taguchimacher, while you've got guys like Keisler, Ginter and now Lambert of all people twiddling thumbs in Memphis.
Hmm. Well, I'd like to think that if Rasmus really needed to be moved up, that they would somehow find it in themselves to get rid of Marerro or JRod, and have and OF of Ankiel, Rasmus and Stavinoha, Ludwick and Marrerro/JRod.
As far as pitching, yeah, we have a lot, but if Garcia needs to advance... well, we have so many pitchers doing poorly in Memphis, it seems like someone could be dropped.
You'll get no argument from me on that one. I'm just not sure if the Cardinals will do it. But the promotion of Lambert shows me that they are figuring it out. Seems like they are pushing the bile to the higher levels.
I really was worried about Rasmus getting off to a sluggish start, but the kid is just raking now, and he's definitely on track to be on the big league roster by 2009.
Ottavino was a college guy drafted last year. He is in high A ball for his first full season of pro ball, so he isn't old. Garcia and Rasmus are very YOUNG for AA. The fact that they are 20 years old and holding their own in the league bodes very well.
Calling Lambert "bile" is pretty classless in my opinion. He was drafted because of his arm strength and the fact he hadn't been worn out by some HS or college coach. The flip side of not having some guy trying to keep his job and throw you to many innings is that the guy is very raw. He is still learning how to pitch while he is moving up. I didn't really like the Lambert pick, I would have rather went with Eric Hurley, but to call the guy bile isn't called for.

That's good to know. I'm not sure of what is a good age for what level.
JC, Baseball America is very hard over about age and level. My personal opinion is to write off a guy based on his age without factoring in experience is a bit short sighted. Not to mention that every human develops at a different pace.
Oh please. I'm not saying that he's "bile" of a human being. He's just not a very good baseball player, and he's among the crap that's being pushed up towards the system so that the younger and more talented guys can flourish at Springfield.

So two years is enough time to see if a guy is going to make it. I am glad you aren't out player development guy. A lot of fine ball players would be out of the system and given up on pretty quickly in your world.

He was drafted in 2004 so he has had one short season and two full seasons of work. He didn't pitch much in HS and had three years of college ball in the northeast. So at the old man age of 24 I wouldn't say harnessing his live arm would be "miraculous". It is certainly WAY to early to release him or say he is garbage.
It's good to see Rasmus starting to do well. I would be interesting to see his splits North vs South in the Texas League.
The South is much better overall, but there are still some great pitchers in the North that he will face like Hochevar and Adenhart.
Definately a pitchers year in the Texas League, but Rasmus seems to be adjusting to the pitching, which as they say, the jump from A to AA is always the hardest as a batter.
