Reyes' line:

7.0 3 1 1 0 4 0 1.29

I thought it would take him a start or two to get back his old AAA form. Guess not. That's a great line. 98 pitches, 71 for strikes. Where's that pitcher been for the Cards?

I was a detractor of the demotion, but maybe it will be just what he needs to help him turn the corner.

He's starting to remind me of Rich Hill - excellent minor league stats but a slow MLB start. I think the Cards need to have patience with him.

Good news though, the Cubs tried their best to keep Hill from being sucessful, but it appears he's going to turn out all right. Same could potentially be said of Reyes.

91 pitches, 78 strikes??

Grrr. Throw some strikes up here, dangit Reyes. Clearly you can do it. You're young, learning, and the season's probably lost. If they get hit, they get hit, but throw that many strikes UP HERE.

Really frustrating.

Reyes looked sharp - same old Reyes when good. Doesn't look overpowering (to me anyway) but gets his K's and didn't give up many hard hit balls.

Ankiel - same old story - some long foul balls, a BB, a K, a single, and decent OF play. I think he can play ML outfield, but his swing has WAY too many holes. Went to today's game also and he he looked bad a lot of his ABs.

J-Rod - officially mashing the ball. Homered last AB friday night, first two ABs today - another hard hit single. Really hitting the ball hard right now.

Ever consider that the reason why he can throw 80% strikes at AAA and 60% in the MLB is because they let him throw his 4-seamer at Memphis while Duncan forces him to throw a crappy 2-seamer in St. Louis?

Maybe, or it could be that he isn't afraid to challenge AAA hitters and has a different attitude against ML players.

We have a lot of information to work with from AAA and ML coaches the last couple of days on Reyes, his mechanics, the two-seamer etc. There's plenty to talk about without introducing speculative pop psychology into the equation.

Is that really that much of a stretch - to assume that he's more confident in challenging AAA hitters?
