They need to change their entire draft and scouting paradigm. They hit with Davis when they had the 1-1 pick in 2012 and I feel like that's where you go "ok, around this guy, with the draft opportunity we have the next few years, we will build." But they've only had one first-round pick since 2013, having traded the rest away and not having traded for any surplus picks, and they used that pick on Buddy Hield with Jamal Murray and several other better players on the board behind Hield. That pick in 2013, the year after Davis, they took Nerlens then shipped him and a future pick (that became Elfrid Payton) for Jrue Holiday. These small market teams can't send away opportunities at future star players to get a Jrue Holiday, who's a fine player but on the backside of his career. That Nerlens trade, man, if they used the pick on Giannis, CJ, KCP or any number of guys available at that slot in 2013 and saved the 2014 pick that became Payton, we'd be talking about an entirely different franchise. They wouldn't be a circus act to tune into LeaguePass to see what kind of meltdown Boogie does and/or How Brow Is Wasted, they'd actually be a very good basketball team.

The funny part is the trade is five years old and you read "D'Aaron Fox" and then get to the part where there are draft picks still to be taken.

It's like the Bobby Bonilla Contract of NBA trades. Every year you remember "oh yeah, they still owe someone a draft pick because they wanted Dwight Howard, who used to have a lot of trade value.

And Adam Silver wants to stop a team like Philly from doing a smart deep rebuild over the course of 4 years, while ignoring this kind of unintentional tanking that makes a franchise bad for over a decade. Would be cool if he put in protections to stop teams like the Nets from torpedoing their entire franchise rather than trying to "fix" the "problem" of #TheProcess.
