MLB wouln't even approve a Giants clause terminating Bonds' contract if he went to jail. The Angels are probably praying that Matthews makes an overture to some undercover cop posing as a lady of the evening on some lonely night in Cleveland. There is a test, but MLB hasn't adopted it. The one that IOC uses is blood based, and the player's association will only allow urine based testing. NEW YORK (AFP) - A reliable test for human growth hormone (HGH) will be available worldwide by the start of next year, US Anti-Doping Agency USADA senior managing director Larry Bowers told the New York Daily News.
The newspaper reported Friday that a long-sought dependable HGH test has been developed by researchers and another test being created could detect HGH in an athlete up to 10 days after the banned performance enhancer is ingested.
Bowers said that random testing would be critical in using the finalized test to catch HGH dope cheats because it could only detect HGH in the body for a few days.
"No advance notice is crucial," Bowers told the News. "The limitation on that test is that there's only a couple of days' window."
Bowers said he expects a test that can register HGH for up to 10 days to be available around the world by the middle of next year.
Also in the works from USADA, Bowers said, are athlete "profiles" that would measure levels of natural bodily substances such as testosterone, cholesterol, hemoglobin and steroids.
Jumps in such levels could suggest an athlete is using banned substances while long-term consistent levels would indicate an athlete is clean, Bowers said.
