I had a Chemistry teacher with a dry sense of humor. The first day of class he asked,"Who was buried in Grant's Tomb?"

Someone thought they knew the answer and said,"Grant."

His reply was,"Nobody was buried in Grant's Tomb, his tomb is above ground."

It's actually true.

There are two people "entombed" in Grant's Tomb, Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia Dent Grant.

Isn't there a horse buried there as well?

I thought that's what the answer to the question always was: Grant, his wife, and his horse.

No, the answer is "nobody." My grandfather thought that question was hysterical.

As far as Grant's horse goes, I have no idea. I think that Robert E. Lee's horse, Traveller, is buried on Washington and Lee's campus. But, that's all I've got.

National Park Service: Official Site - General Grant National Memorial

So, who is buried at Grant's Tomb?

Technically, no one is "buried" in Grant's Tomb. The 159 foot neo-classical structure is a tomb, therefore both General Grant and his wife are "entombed", above ground, inside the Memorial.

-----
No mention of any horse.
