Cordero is needed a lot lot more other places like Boston.
Looking at Church, I feel like it was Frank Robinson that wasnt a big fan of his and that is why he wasnt getting the playing time. However, now with Robinson no longer with the team I figured Church would be getting a real look. Is that not the case anymore?

We've got a good start with Narveson. Now we just need to add in that quality young starter and promising position player to meet the Nats' demands.Radio63 wrote:I'm not sure the Nats need starting pitching; after all, they just signed Pedro AstacioAnd apparently Simo has a starting spot signed up. So they're good to go, right?
Seriously, though, the Post reports that Cordero could be had for a quality young starter and any promising position player, and Walt did say that we needed relief help. Narveson and ?? for Cordero?
Rumor has it that the Reds have offered Dunn and Homer Bailey, with Aaron Harang as a throw-in.

Agreed Popeye, If Washington is willing to do that deal, then you just do it. We can get a righty outfielder later.Popeye_Card wrote:That said, beggars cannot be choosers, and if we can get OF talent of Church's level for a guy we'll lose to waivers in a couple of weeks, I think you make the deal.fewgoodcards wrote:exactly, church would be a nice player to have, but with edmonds and duncan we really need a righthanded hitting outfield. one good thing about church is that he can handle center if edmonds is out. the bad thing is you can't get him at bats in a platoon situation b/c he hits the same way as the other two.stlmark wrote:I would love to get Church for Narveson, but I think we need another righty outfielder too.
I mean, we're likely going to be carrying Skip Scott. I'd rather have Church on the roster than the Skipper.

he was also the centerpiece in a trade for larry walker. now i realize it was a salary dump, but he was the main guy in that deal. he was then traded to the red sox for Kim, so i wouldn't say that was nothing. the red sox dumped him b/c he needed shoulder surgery and they needed to open up a spot on their 40 man roster. now i'm not saying he has a ton of value, but he is a lefty who put up an ERA under 3 at AAA last year. not that he will get us church, but i think it is pretty obvious at this point that the nationals aren't big fans of ryan church. last year they were playing guys like alex escobar and nook logan over him.jagtrader wrote:Narveson was discarded for nothing by the Rockies and Red Sox before he came back to the Cardinals. Why would he have any trade value?

It doesn't make sense why the Nats wouldn't like Church.
Anyways, who cares about dexterity? Church's minor league numbers and brief MLB numbers indicate that he could be a slightly above average corner OF. While Juan'cion will get the Cardinals that elusive .757/95 OPS+, Church might be able to get them...well, better.
With that, if they had a player like Church, just make him the friggin' starter. If you have three lefty bats in the OF, oh well? The Cardinals did have Drew, Edmonds and Lankford. Plus, the entire infield bats right handed, so I don't see the problem.
