Diamondbacks send Julio to Marlins

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded reliever Jorge Julio for right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and an undisclosed amount of cash, FOXSports.com has learned.

MORE TO COME
Win. Definitely win. Since I first heard of this, all I could think of is a strikeout guy who also chokes a ridiculous amount late in games. See, 10 HR, 4 blown saves (in only 20 chances) 9 WP, 35 BB, and 88 K in 66 innings last year. Yeah, that's an impressive strikeout number, but if he could do it without walking guys and giving up gopher balls, he'd be Gagne style.

Oh, and 3.6M next year, and we'd give up a player to bring him over. As VEB pointed out, Looper is better over the last three years and we already have him on the team.

The Cardinals pursued a deal for Arizona setup man/closer Jorge Julio and were — um, beat out? — by the Florida Marlins. This much we know. The Marlins got Julio and cash for a marginal prospect pitcher, and it’s likely the Diamondbacks were asking for a higher caliber player from the Cardinals. La Russa had his own take on the trade.

“They liked (Florida’s prospect) better than they liked what we had,” the manager said. “I thought Wainwright was a little steep.”
Maybe that was just a joke. They couldn't possibly have asked for Wainwright...?

That's from Goold's blog.

If they asked for Wainwright, Walt should go down to Arizona, knock on their GM's door, and punch him in the face...
