Having seen him pitch a few times now, I think he's pitching as well as he's pitched in several years. Probably since 2004 or so. Compare video of him pitching now and him pitching last year and you can really see just how much that hip was bothering him.brats&beer wrote:Walks will kill you, but overall a good job. something is probably making the guys realize just that they may have to take up the slack with their big horse in severe question...
so when you get decent starts and then back to back great starts from question marks you have to like it... Wells, Looper, and Wainwright are throwing good right now and if you can get Reyes rounded out(he had the tough task of going against Oswalt, but did give up some key runs) then you have a good 4 man rotation that can hold you at water till(hopefully) Carp gets back and Mulder returns...

Thoughts:
Albert owns Snell
Looper owns every Pirates hitter not named Chris Duffy
Izzy looked outstanding today
I thought La Russa would PH with Taguchi instead of Wilson, but am glad that Wilson got the call (for the way the ball was NOT carrying today at PNC, Wilson barely missed a HR...which means he crushed the bejsus outta that ball)
Ryan Franklin..our new 8th inning Waino
...
Is our starting pitching really this good!??!?!!?

so far... but it has been impressive... I think Looper has far outdone expectations so far... and hopefully he can continue on it as well and give you a consistent 6+ innings each start out... same for Wells... but if you can get 7 and 8 innings out of them then we might be in for a repeat of a surprise rotation we had back in 2004Balltilyafall4 wrote:

I wish I could get to see him on video. I hope he comes back big time. I may have it on the DVR - I'll have to wait until I get home tonight.RC21 wrote:Having seen him pitch a few times now, I think he's pitching as well as he's pitched in several years. I'm not sure when/if we can become full believers in the four healthy guys, but it isn't that time yet.
As happy as I am about the way they're pitching (Reyes excepted), even in my wildest dreams I don't expect to see this type of performance continue. If they can get two of the four to league-average ERA's and 180 IP, I'll be happy.
