Exactly. When they come in to play the White Sox or Tigers they may be able to squeeze a game in against the Indians. Plus they may even not make up one of the games and see if it has playoff implications before making it up at the end of the season.mikechamp wrote:My guess is they'll make it a little at a time throughout the season. You know, when SEA heads east to play other teams and they have a matching off day with CLE while they're near Ohio.

It's a bad deal all around, but everyone acting like the schedule makers are a bunch of idiots is a little much. Yes, I disagree with them about little things like 2 game series and getaway games in the summer being night contests more often than not.
Could this have been avoided? No, they cannot control the weather.
Could this have been made a little easier to deal with by scheduling division games that offer more flexibility to make-up at a later date? Definitely.
Clearly this is a case of hindsight being 20/20. The weather really sucks right now and there's not much that can be done immediately. Moving forward they should definitely start the season by scheduling division games.

Well, yeah, you have to think it would have happened sooner or later. But it makes my point for more inter-divisional play, or like you said, only divisional play for the first month. I would like to see more inter-divisional play myself, but that's just me.jim wrote:With as early as the season starts, it's just a matter of time. And it's not that it happened, it's that who it happened against has no scheduled trips back to Cleveland. For cold weather cities like that, make sure the early series are against divisional opponents who will be making another trip or two back.brats&beer wrote:Mike & Mike were saying that this morning. I too think it's ludicrous. Save those games for mid-summer. But to MLB's defense, when was the last time it was this cold in April and this was an issue? I can't remember the last time, maybe when I was little back in the early 80's, but not since then (that I remember).
Really though, there aren't many options to keep this from happening. They could get rained out just as easily.
I think the answer is to encourage more inter-divisional play. That would give out of market fans more than once a year to catch their team when it comes to town and they could more easily play some double headers. Making up an entire series with DHers would be rough and perhaps impossible though.
