I don't think this spells the end of his career. Not even close, actually. He's still only 26 years old.

It depends on the severity. For instance, Chris Carpenter had a torn labrum after his time with the Blue Jays. Obviously, it didn't end his career.

per rotoworld:

"Dr. James Andrews performed a debridement of Mark Prior’s right rotator cuff as well as repair of labral and capsular injuries in his right shoulder during season-ending surgery Tuesday.
That's all the detail the Cubs provided. If the labrum was torn, Prior is going to have a lot to overcome in his rebab over the next year. He was essentially done for 2007 no matter what the surgery turned up, and what was discovered seems to be significant enough to put his status for the beginning of 2008 in doubt. Perhaps the best-case scenario would have him back at 100 percent in 2009. However, there's a real chance he never returns as an effective major league pitcher."

Probably going to show just the type of guy I am here...

I don't really feel sorry for Prior because I don't know him, I feel sorry for me. I liked watching him pitch when he was healthy.

The doctor who performed the surgery says it is not career ending:

Better than going thru the process of him trying to pitch while injured and being shut down, heal somewhat and then get injured again.

He'd be better off w/a serious elbow injury, but given what has happened, a good rehab program with some luck and he might be able to make it back. The question will be how far he might regress and how much of the shoulder can be fully repaired after he threw many pitches on a damaged shoulder.

With a healthy Prior and Wood, the Cubs could have had an awesome rotation. I don't think it's appropriate to be happy that a player is injured, even if they are a jerk.

For some reason, this reminds me of the movie "Groundhog Day."
