Eventually, Adam Kennedy's line drives hit right at infielders and doubles hit right at outfielders will start falling for hits. Eventually Eckstein and Miles will switch their brains back. Eventually Skip Schumaker won't be with the club any longer, much less making spot starts. Eventually Edmonds will start driving the ball with more authority and less dainty-ness. Pujols is starting to look more and more like Pujols(he even has a 9 game hitting streak, believe it or not). Eventually we'll know whether Carpenter can return or not, either solidifying the rotation's chaos with him or with a more permanent replacement(Narveson?).
As has been said ad nauseum: the offense isn't great. But if it remains this bad all year, it would be historically terrible. And the odds of that happening are rather low. The pitching is not as good as it was in Spring and the beginning of the year, nor is it as bad as it has been the last couple of weeks(I read something in USAtoday that said that we haven't had a win from a starter in 3 weeks).
The bullpen's been pretty good, in my opinion. We'll see what we can get with the raw talent of Dove and/or Jiminez, and it'll refine itself even more. Isringhausen practically looks reborn, and without a foul ball blowing in from halfway in the stands, he'd be just about flawless for the first month.
Eventually, the team will be able to move on from the tragedy it's having to face. Whether it's too late by then, no one knows.
But I still think this team can and will come out on top. It's going to be awfully close, though.
