Yeah, my 7 year old Panasonic 50" plasma is still going strong. Both HDMI inputs are still working fine.

Screen will go choppy then sometimes completely black, as if the cable had fallen out, so i'll have to unplug then plug back in and then it'll work. Lately it's been doing it more frequently.JackofDiamonds wrote:What is the issue?go birds wrote:I am having issues with my HDMI inputs and im fairly certain it's not the cables that are defective.
Anyone with a samsung plasma experienced issues with their HDMI inputs? I've used various different cables and am having the same problem. Not sure how old the cables are as i just had them laying around but it's not like they were getting used so i dunno.
I'd buy a new HDMI cable from Amazon for under $10 and try that out first. I have a (wow, can't believe it's that old) 8 year old Samsung LCD HDTV and haven't had any HDMI issues yet.
Yea, i was gonna buy a new cable first and see if that'll do the trick.
I bought the tv back in 2012, i believe, so i feel like it is too soon for stuff starting to fail.

I can no longer hook my laptop up to the TV through the HDMI cord. It's an 09 Samsung plasma. Chromecast/Fire stick still work fine though so I doubt it's the port. Probably just a bad cord. haven't really cared to mess with it.

I've got a 42" Panasonic about that old that gets a pink stripe down the middle of the screen and sometimes the right edge flickers or blacks out. It's the bedroom TV now so not watched enough to replace.Swirls wrote:Yeah, my 7 year old Panasonic 50" plasma is still going strong. Both HDMI inputs are still working fine.
We've only had our 47" LG smart TV for 2 years, but it's performed flawlessly so far.

Re: Rave: Samsung
Can I turn this into a rant...and post date it to about 8 months ago.
While the Samsung plasma had a great picture, the TV only lasted about 5 years which was a little disappointing. Something went bad and the cost to repair wasn't cost effective in comparison to just buying a new TV.
Ended up w/ a 60" Vizio LED Smart TV (which really is a nice option, but it's pretty common at this point). The Vizio has a really great picture (especially in comparison to cost), but I definitely prefer the plasma picture to the LED.
Once our next one bites the dust (which hopefully won't be for a little while) I'll be going to the 4K which already have went from outrageously priced to pretty affordable in about 6 months.

I can't believe my Samsung is 8 years old. It still has a perfect picture, a small frame/bevel/whatever, 5 HDMI slots, etc. etc.. Not sure why I would "upgrade" anytime soon. An Apple TV turns it into a smarter TV than the smartest "Smart TV," and 46" is more than enough size for any room. I'm surprised that there isn't more planned obsolescence with big screen TVs.

Re: Rave: Samsung
Yea my Samsung is awesome, but im not sure i'd ever get another one.
Mainly because it seems the HDMI ports are seemingly going kaput (yet to be confirmed) and i'm convinced there are issues with the WIFI, in that it's so bad i cannot stream Netflix and MLB.tv. Odd thing is, I can stream VUDU, but have to do so on the HD setting, not the preferred HDX setting, because it will always buffer during the middle of the movie and i kid you not at the most important point in the movie--very frustrating. These days, though, it seems like it can't always handle HD. For those unfamiliar with VUDU, its a movie streaming service that usually has 3 different options for movie quality--SD, HD and HDX.
First world problems.

Re: Rave: Samsung
You had better luck with Samsung than I did. We have a Samsung refrigerator and it started leaking. We thought it was the water filter as it started leaking after we replaced the filter, so we bought another $40 filter and it still leaked. We looked closer and there was a crack in the housing for the filter. We looked online and found that it is difficult for a layperson to replace so we called an appliance repair guy, he ordered the part, after 3 weeks it finally comes in and he comes out to replace it and it doesn't fit. He called us a few days later and said Samsung couldn't help him and his boss told him to give it up, so he just told us he couldn't help us. We called a couple of other repair companies and they said they won't deal with Samsung, they are too difficult to work with. So we call Samsung ourselves and they say they can't tell what we need just from the model number that there are 3 different housings for our model number and they gave us another phone number to call some outside company to find out what part we need. We called that number and they said they'd have to look into it and call us back. We never heard back from them so called again and they basically said they can't help us. So we ended up buying a separate filter gizmo that isn't in the refrigerator itself, but on the water line coming in to the refrigerator, but I'm not happy with everyone telling us they can't help us for a 3 year old refrigerator that was something like $2,500 at the time. We bought a new dishwasher recently and I steered clear of Samsung.

Re: Rave: Samsung
So i found a brand new HDMI cord, still in the package and used it. Seems to be doing the trick.
I wanna say i used a new one last time, but i guess not.
