I noticed that this am in looking at the box. He's really in a bit of a funk, at least statistically. I haven't seen many of his ABs lately, but I cannot imagine that he's taking very good swings.

some really bad swings. guessing and getting fooled by pitches and barely waving at them.

(unsettling as it is to see the great AP look human, I'm not too concerned)

I agree. With him, it could only take one time at the plate to be back in form. However, a day off may not be a bad thing.

I hope Rick Horton will be able to work the game today. I'd like to hear a pitcher's assessment of how Smoltz is doing. i.e. the little things and subtleties of his delivery; I think I'll notice if he's stinking up the place.

I asked this somewhere else a few days ago to no response, but does anyone else think he is running more gingerly over the last month or so? Even when he walks, like to cover 1st after a base hit, he seems to be walking on eggshells. As would be typical for Albert, I wonder if the heel or feet aren't aggravating him more than he is letting on.

Smoltz debuted with Atlanta in 1988, and spent his entire career there before signing a one-year, $5.5-million deal with Boston. He’s 212-152 with a 3.32 ERA and 154 saves, the only pitcher in major league history with 200 wins and 150 saves.“.”
i really hate made up numbers like that

um yeah, Eck had 197 wins and 390 saves
I prefer if they say, Smoltz was a freaking great starter, and a freaking great reliever, just like Eck was. But smoltz is in a special class because he kicked butt as a starter after moving to the pen.

Oh, screw the smoltz boner, i have moist panties as I wait for this game. I have always had a man crush on smoltz and long coveted as a Card.
