Slow and duplicate posts

I've removed search functionality for guests.

Boo! I use this a lot.

Guests are unregistered users. As a registered user you have the ability to search every 10 seconds. Bots were filling up the search function with a lot of query's which impacted performance. However, I don't think that's the only issue.

So, if I'm not logged in and am lurking as a guest I can not use the search function anymore? Is that correct?

I seem to see this a bunch. I made fun of jack just a few days ago about it, saw this from richie today. And it took 8 seconds for me to get to this screen after I hit reply.
