I looked at the replay 4 times and i thought it hit the glove. My wife thought it hit the ground.

The cameras are from an angle that looks down on the field....The umpire sight is field level....I can understand why the umpire saw the ball looked trapped from the field level. A good case for instant replay

a good case for not overturning any on field decision imo. the post in this thread attest to that.

I've watched it PLENTY...and I'm not alone in calling it a trap. It was a good overturned call. Scully is still terrific though.mcgee51taguchi99 wrote:You may want to check the replay once more.IlliniAmy wrote:I disagree. I think it was a trap. They all get together to overturn a correct call. Wow.

It's one of those bang bang plays that if you look at it a million times, you'll come up with a different thought each time. The ball just has to hit one blade of grass to be a trap, iirc.

You can see in this grab that the ball is below the glove. The leather is all behind the ball. It then bounces off the ground and up into the glove.

I think it's a catch. I'm looking at that pic and it looks to me like the glove is under the ball. I'll tell you this much - it was close enough where nobody had any business overturning the call. That was a huge mistake the umps.

Re: Vin Scully entertains during a Jim Tracy ejection
Even instant replay wouldn't help much with that, it looks like a trap in one shot, and a catch in another. Is the web of the glove on the ground and the ball bounces off that, or does the ball hit the ground in front of the webbing?Mulholland-Cards wrote:Instant Replay... that is all
