Wong when he arrives in St. Louis next year(full time, he may get a September callup this year), he's going to create another logjam with him, Marp and DD at 2B.

Trade DD or Marp, they're a defensive super utility and an offensive super utility. Well, keep one and drown Wiggington.

Memphis Redbirds ‏@memphisredbirds

John Gast finishes the afternoon with 6 2/3 scoreless to set the #Redbirds record for consecutive shutout innings with 24 2/3

I'd imagine that Gast would be the first pitcher called up from AAA this year.

I suppose that another option would be to trade Freese and move Matt Carpenter to third base, which would open second base for Wong. Who knows? Maybe the Cardinals trade Wong instead. They have options.

You might want to wait until Wong is closer to being called up before making a decision. By then Freese or Carpenter could have a season ending injury and at that point you might need Wong's services.

I still think that Wong will be in a MI role next season. Let him play 2b, CF, etc. We should be able to do a better job finding a backup SS and I won't complain at all if they decide to DFA Wigginton. I definitely don't see us trading away David Freese so we can play a rookie at 2b. Descalso, who will be arb eligible, is the most likely guy to be shown the door.

Way too much has been made of the fact that the club didn't give Freese an extension.... as if it's a sign that Freese is on the block or that the club is down on him. I find most of that premature. The fact that he didn't get an extension speaks more to the fact that he's already 30 and not going to hit free agency until 2016.

Kolten Wong is going to have hit the heck out of the ball or play world-class defense (he's projected to do neither of those things) in order to come close to providing what we expect from David Freese.

yup. I like David Freese a lot, but with control of him until he's 32/33 I don't know that we should concern ourselves with extending him. It'd be a goodwill gesture, but those generally don't turn out well for the club. Use him for his prime years, then if he's too expensive to bring back let him go and play someone younger at 3rd who will be able to at least match Freese in his decline years.

Through four starts and 23 innings in Triple-A, Wacha has a 1.96 ERA. 3-0.

Last night against the Iowa Cubs, 7 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB. Wacha was depressed after the game. It could have been a CGSO if it had been against the Chicago Cubs instead.

Wacha's ratios are pretty abysmal however
