I don't know....I have many questions for him when he gets back.Arthur Dent wrote:Did the military book the tickets through China? I'd be curious what the background was. Does China routinely block transit of U.S. military personnel, or do they just do it randomly, or when there is some kind of diplomatic tension? It would be strange if the military office that arranges soldier transit would not know China's policy on this.

Really, it makes no sense to route our soldiers through communist China - particularly when they are heading to a politically sensitive (with respect to US/China) place like South Korea.M1IRONMIKE wrote:I don't know....I have many questions for him when he gets back.Arthur Dent wrote:Did the military book the tickets through China? There is Chinese guy that I work with who flies over about 1x per year, when I told him the story he was not the least bit surprised he was sent back. He almost seemed to be aware of this, which makes you wonder how he ended up going through there.
Did he go through China on the way home?

I Skyped with Trevor in korea last week. The airline is at fault for the China fiasco. He was kept in a holding area in chi an for 9 hours while the Chinese decided what to do with him. Trevor asked to call the U.S. embassy which they finally allowed him to do and it was after that they decided to send him back to chicago.

Apparently the American Airlines felt bad about the trouble they put my son through during the china fiasco. They sent him a $500 voucher for a future flight.
