I like a whole bunch of it. I grew up with it, loved the music, loved the videos. I like the synth, but most of all I like that people still used saxophone and horns in music back then. You can go find a good dozen 80's new wave and pop hits with saxophone solos without even trying hard. Our House, Who Can it Be Now, Maneater, Harden My Heart, True, Dancing in the Dark, Only the Lonely, We Don't Need Another Hero, etc.... I can hum all those solos off the top of my head. Pretty much eat that [expletive] up.
Since then we've had, what, Morphine? And then that guy had to go and die.

There was a lot of music back then that I thought was silly even then. Huey Lewis. Herbie Hancock. The Bangles. The Cars. Peter Gabriel. Etc. There were exceptions that were actually pretty good. Genesis. U2. Prince. Michael Jackson. Maybe Springsteen? Etc.

EDM, Dubstep, even modern Radiohead aren't my thing but I wouldn't say they bother me all that much. But that soulless, hollow synthesized sound of the 80s is (almost always) unbearable.
Exhibit B (listen to Beams' interview before the performance as well, I think I lifted that subconciously in paraphrase before):

It's just an adjustment of expectations, I think. There are some scores from the 80's that people hate because of that synth sound. Thief, Ladyhawke, some John Carpenter movies which I think he may have scored himself. I like them.
