I do like that we get a "competitive balance" pick. I get why it's in place, but it's still funny.

On a semi-related note, taking Aiken if he's still there when we pick wouldn't surprise me.

Sure, if Tate and player X grade out the same, and they happen to be the best guys available, take player X. But I sure as [expletive] don't want Kozma if Porcello is available.

Ideally I'd like then to take the best available hitter. Someone like Ian Happ, who totally fits a Cardinals draft pick mold (Wong, Cox) of college hitter who killed the Cape league--TWICE--with wooden bats, can play 2B or OF, looks like he's going to make hard contact to all fields as a pro, has a good glove, and is an above-average runner. He's the guy I like most in the range of players that could reasonably fall to STL.

It seems like a lot of mocks are sticking with Kevin Newman to the Cardinals, but I don't really like hearing "he's like Pete Kozma, if Kozma could hit."
