Just paste flyers all over Portland for Ojai. "It's like LA meets Austin but cheap." Mmk. Enjoy.heyzeus wrote:Keep Austin Portland.MrSaigon wrote:The trust fund babies flew here to screw me out of the life I want (I'm not really that ungrateful). The upside of living in a bland, mediocre city is that I can afford things.

You moved to Ojai? I missed that. If you are in Orange County, pm me and I'll let you buy me a drink while I share some soccer strategies with you.

We have friends that have a "tiny house." You know what's better than a tiny house? A normal house. If someone farts there is no escaping it in a tiny house. No bathroom privacy, no privacy at all. I get people shouldn't be materialistic and stuff but I like my stuff. I don't have a lot of it but it fits in my normal house just fine and I like it.

First, I'm fortunate to live in a small city that's very affordable, allowing me to own a larger than normal space for storage and hobbies, of which I have plenty. But I'm still drawn to the concept of tiny houses. If I could go back to my years just out of college, I think I could have done it for a few years. Heck, I lived in a trailer with two roommates for a couple of years--that was pretty close anyway. You can save up a lot of money in a hurry when you don't have space to put anything you buy.

No I live in Phoenix. I've just been seeing a lot of heat for Ojai in internet hipster circles. It's the next Portland/Austin.slide_into_first wrote:You moved to Ojai? I missed that. If you are in Orange County, pm me and I'll let you buy me a drink while I share some soccer strategies with you.

I'm thinking I like the idea of multiple tiny houses. A mini compound.

Meanwhile some prick is going to use his AIG bonus to give up the rat race and buy another superfluous house, this time in SE Portland:
This is interesting:

I'll figure out how this supports my hipster/trust fund baby narrative later.“With the $13-plus trillion we are estimated to ultimately spend on the bailouts, we could not only have bought and paid off every single sub-prime mortgage in the country (that would only have cost $1.4 trillion), we could have paid off every remaining mortgage of any kind in this country - and still have had enough money left over to buy a new house for every American who does not already have one.”

Where did Taibbi come up with the $13 trillion figure? As your link shows, that's way, way off.MrSaigon wrote:Meanwhile some prick is going to use his AIG bonus to give up the rat race and buy another superfluous house, this time in SE Portland:
