Vaguely related, but the other day at my commuter bar, a customer gleefully struck up an awkward conversation with three different randoms mistakenly sitting with him. Skillfully steered all three conversations toward his Vietnam experiences, his family history in the military, and his feelings toward Obama. I was raised next to SAFB, with almost all my friends being air force kids. I'd like to think I have more respect for our service men and women most in my cultural demographic. GRB has heroes here, which is awesome.

This dude, though. Seeing the first two randoms leave the bar earlier than planned due to the awkward inability to ask this guy to stop talking had me squirming. Politics are never, ever good for breaking the ice.
