ahhh true. was thinking moncada, but also was thinking moncada was a little bit older when he signed.PA_Hiker wrote:For the Cards, yes. Moncada just got that much a few years ago though.go birds wrote:it does beg the question though--would it be unprecedented to spend $60+ mil on a 19 year old?
Oh, and I'll say $26.5m plus the penalty the same.
My prediction: We sign Robert for a total of $65 mil. Yours?

Baseball America's Ben Badler reports that the Cardinals and White Sox are viewed as the favorites to sign Cuban outfielder Luis Robert.
Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan is hearing the same, and he's been told by two sources that Robert has already picked a team and is expected to sign soon after he's officially eligible on Saturday. Passan also reports that Robert's price tag could approach $25 million, and that would come with a 100 percent overage tax, leaving the potential total cost in the $50 million range. The 19-year-old Robert, a center fielder, is considered an elite young talent.

If the team is not the Cardinals and the contract is for 25m plus another 25m in tax, I'll be pretty upset.go birds wrote:Baseball America's Ben Badler reports that the Cardinals and White Sox are viewed as the favorites to sign Cuban outfielder Luis Robert.

I hope we sign him.
That said, it's at least a tad humorous to see people getting this worked up over a teenager but not when they go cheap on MLB stars.

a big part of the reason i want them to sign him is its basically a way of saying "oh take our 1st rounder away? well we will just go ahead and sign probably what would be the #1 draft pick anyway".
its an expensive "f you" but it's still an "f you"

So you wouldn't be clamoring to sign him if we still had our picks?Tim wrote:Apples and oranges. We still had draft picks last off season.MrCrowesGarden wrote:I hope we sign him.
