I'm supposed to be going to Mexico City for work next month and TBH I'm starting to freak out a little.

edit: 63 suspected cases *
Where did you read 63 suspected cases and since you posted this last Fri. I assume their tests have been confirmed by now? I still see only 6 confirmed cases in the US.

My son's teaching in Taiwan this year, and is currently traveling in Japan, so although I'm not too worried right now, I hate for him to be abroad at a time of such health uncertainty where he might be subject to sudden travel bans, quarantines, and so on.

It's really more about wishing I could help IF something arose.

I didn't read all of this, but I think if you do you'll probably feel better. Specifically there is a graph/chart that maps how communicable and deadly this virus is in relation to a lot of previous/well known viruses.

I'll kind of recap what I think.

The bad: It started in Wuhan. Did you all know there are 3M (11M total) people living in Wuhan than NYC (8M total)? I did not, but it is true. As such, there are a lot of cases.
The good: The majority are still in Wuhan and/or China (almost 12K). https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... as-spread/
I guess that's not good, per se, but, comparatively there only 8 cases in America (20 in Japan, 19 in Thailand).
Credit to the Chines for alerting the world early.
Also, in really good news, it appears to be a singular source. Meaning its not like the Zika mosquito virus that people were worried bout every time a mosquito bit them. Someone PROBABLY (not known) ate some raw bat and got the disease then spread it human to human from there.
Also, the mortality rate is a lot lower than I was expecting. Tracking closer to 3%. The NYT article caps it at 5% which is a lot less than 10% obviously.

I've been staring at this sentence and shaking my head for two straight minutes.

Because it's gross or because you read something else?

Just processing it.

Thinking things like, "how much would I have to be paid to try bat tartare? Is there an amount?"
