First of all, I'll have you know that my dog is also untrainable, so my mockery and dismissal of her intellect has no tangible effects whatsoever.

Fall is both magical and a grind. We should start harvest later this week. Those first few days are the best feeling. Then it grinds on for weeks. Then it's done and it's awesome. However I'm sure this year by the time we are done everything will be cold and gray, all the leaves will be gone, and winter will be here. It's like life time warps a couple months ahead during harvest.

Living in a warm climate during fall is always a little bittersweet for me, because the light changes so you get that fall feeling, but it is still incredibly hot, so it's a bit disorienting.

We are going to travel north to see the fall colors the last week of September.
We will drive along The Kancamagus Highway (State Highway 112) from Lincoln to Conway NH. We’re going during the week so hopefully will avoid some of the “leaf peepers” traffic. Still working on details, but we’ll also take the Conway Scenic Railroad as well as the Mt. Washington Cog Railroad.
Excited to be going somewhere/anywhere after our summer travel plans (and generally all planned retirement travel for the last 2 years) were cancelled.

How early do the leaves change in Maine? I don't know exactly when yet but within the next month I will be driving through Maine and getting paid for it at the same time. I hope I get to see some fall foliage along the way. I'm assuming that it will be about three or four weeks until I make it up there since I won't get on the road for another week or ten days and I think San Diego and Miami come first and then I'll be heading up to Maine but I do know for certain that I have to go through the NE to Maine as part of my training.

Mid-to-late October so you’ll be past the peak for the most part. Southern NE and along the coast should still have some nice color.
While It varies from year to year, the second week of October is usually the peak. But we have had a very wet year and I’m not sure what effect that will have,
