Im into Steeplechase and volleyball now. The men’s 1500 was wild. In a real reversal of roles, two European meatheads pushed too hard going at each other and an American slipped in for the win.

And of course Sophia Smith. Portland finally has their Michael Jordan. I finally got a Thorns jersey but I should have gotten her US jersey instead.

The olympics are rad.

Ok, that gold pokey nymph dancing around with the silver guy in a chastity belt is art a little too high for me. But that performance of My Way was magical in the closing ceremonies.

Really great year of olympics. I love the ability to watch everything. And I damn near did.

It made me want to try more things. And get good at the things I like. In fruitier terms it was really inspiring.

It is definitely cool that we can basically watch anything at the Olympics now. I love it. I guess I'd never watched Men's Volleyball before but I watched quite a bit of it last week. Holy crap I can't believe how fast they move and how hard they hit. It was impressive.

Usually the public funded BBC have great comprehensive coverage. As the BBC funding has been cut for various reasons, obviously the Olympic coverage seems to have taken a hit.

There were subscription services showing full coverage, but the Olympics, Football World Cup/European Championships, Grand National Horse Race, Wimbledon etc used to be "Crown Jewels" and would always be "free to air".

The coverage was confusing. For instance, randomly on Sunday I watched the ladies weightlifting live on the paid service Eurosport, then the BBC showed it later "as live".

Maybe it was because the GB athlete came third, so they maybe had a deal like "If your athlete wins a medal, you can show highlights, otherwise it's just a basic package"

I ended up not watching much as it was so confusing.

What a shame.


US Olympics coverage used to be swimming, gymnastics and track (not field) spliced together with ‘mother has glaucoma’ sob stories. It was expanding with cable, but then that dies when I cut the cord a long time ago. It was cool to see so much sport and craft this time. To be perfectly honest, I actually did kind of miss the interesting personal stories, but may look for them now that the flurry of events is over. And I’ll look for not just the American ones.
