Awesome. "Food Feuds" or "Food Wars"? I know of "Food Wars" but I wasn't sure if there's another show.
They're both very good. The magic dust (or whatever it's called) at 17th St. is fantastic. But I think it's a no-contest. Pappy's is head and shoulders above 17th Street, IMO. And 17th St. is head and shoulders above all the other BBQ's I've had here.

I haven't had BBQ from the Metro East 17th St but if you're talking about Mike Mills' original spot in Murphysboro, you're crazy.

Now I've got to ck out Blues City Deli - any signature sandwiches?
For a great Hot Pastrami sandwich- I will vouch for Carl's Deli (across the street from St. Mary's Hospital). Not much else to speak of there but that sandwich.

They have a few locations, same owner. So in a roundabout way, I am talking about Mike Mills' BBQ, just not from the same exact location you're talking about.
17th St. was really, really good. Great, even. But Pappy's ribs, with that dry rub... and beef brisket... are the best BBQ I've ever had in my life.
The problem with Pappy's is that most BBQ-goers go for the pulled pork. And IMO, that's the worst item on Pappy's menu. (not sure if you're in that category, it's just a general observation about the BBQ-eating populace)

Ribs and brisket for me. As much as I love Pappy's brisket, the brisket at SmokiOs is better. Just get the sauce on the side.

I wish someone in STL would open a Carolina-style BBQ place.

Here's the link to the
Soulard Gyro and Deli; I'm checking it out.
Festival of Nations was awesome...I spent way too much money but all the food was great.

I've had the Benton Park a few times, and the Pulled Pork...both are great. I need to get down there, but Legrands is closer.

Food Feuds is a new Michael Symon (I love that guy) show debuting next month.
The RFT blog about it.

I gotta stop reading this thread. I may have to hit up Biemers in Lawrence for some BBQ later.
