Yeah, I'm already sick of pundits explaining that Jay made Ludwick expendable.
On the plus side, Richard Justice had to give a report to MLB network with Sarah Mclachlan blaring on the Juicebox speakers.

This reeks of desperation. It also says everything about the state of our minor league system and the "high floor, low ceiling" draft strategy.

Maybe he was, but there's still value to that control for another team then, right? This was the best we can do? I hate to sound Cards Talk-ish here, but this is pathetic.
I'm not sure. he probably will earn more through arbitration than he would probably get on the free agent market. Which makes him being under team control a somewhat negative.

So who gets DFA'd... MacDougal or Suppan. I say it's MacDougal. And I'm guessing Stavinoha gets called up.

Does Ludwick sleep with other players' wives?

But the problem is that Albert is already under contract through 2011. Ludwick would have
only been here through 2011. So by the time we needed to pony up money for Pujols, Ludwick will be gone...

That's why I said "Still, a weird deal".

Here are my thoughts from about page 6 or so:
So what we should see is Suppan DFA'd and Craig called back up.
What we'll probably see is Greene get optioned down, Hawksworth get moved to the mop up role, and Stavinoha called up.

"The three teams pulled off a swap mere hours before Saturday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver Trade Deadline, as right-hander Jake Westbrook and cash was sent from the Indians to the Cardinals, outfielder Ryan Ludwick was dealt from the Cards to the Padres and Double-A right-hander Corey Kluber was sent from the Padres to the Tribe. Minor League lefty Nick Greenwood was shipped from the Padres to the Cardinals."
Looks like some cash came along with Westbrook so at least we've got that going for us.

We could have probably given Cleveland David Kopp and a Low A scrub and got Westbrook. WTF
