I've read some front offices attempt to use advanced metrics, but football isn't as situational and individualistic as baseball so not much progress has been made.

I'm no scout, but last week Tebow delivered the worst starting quarterback performance I've ever seen (considering I'm from Chicago that's saying something). Unbelievably his horrible stats don't truly reflect how bad he looked. His arm and decision making are particularly awful which is a huge problem for a QB.

Sam Bradford threw for 3,512 yards as a rookie on a pretty awful team. There's a reasonable chance Tebow never throws for that many in his career (1,066 right now).

As for Gabbert, I'll stick with my original opinion from a year ago that wasn't too popular if I remember right.

I would love him as a late first or second rounder in a situation where he can sit and learn for a year or two. Not so much as a "let's give this guy a bunch of money and play him right away" top 5-10 pick.

No stats are needed to know that both Gabbert and Bradford have way more pro potential than Tebow.

I'm not defending Tebow here.......... I'm simply saying that Bradford has been nothing short of awful himself, but doesn't seem to take any heat for it.

Bradford hasn't really been awful at all. Not outstanding, but I would say that his completion percentage is a bigger indicator of the quality of receivers he is throwing to than anything he is doing wrong.

He's got a few things to learn. Putting a bit more finesse on short passes, evading the rush a bit better, etc. But to call his performance so far "awful" is flat out incorrect.

His completion percentage is 2nd worst in the league (only Gabbert has been worse). In yards per attempt, he's pretty close to last. He's throw 3 touchdown passes in 5 games. He's fumbled 7 times in 5 games.

Maybe his receivers are hurting him. The bottom line is that the results have been awful........ I'm not sure how you can look at it any other way. From what I can gather, he hasn't improved at all from last year to this year, and he's got one of the best quarterback gurus in football as his offensive coordinator.

The Rams' offensive line this year has been terrible--he's been rushed into a lot of bad throws and those fumbles. McDaniels' red zone offense has been...let's call it "odd". Hence the lack of TD passes. (Along with all the dropped passes that could have been easy scores or 1st downs.)

Again, he hasn't been great. He has taken a slight step back this year. But watch the tapes before looking at the stats and saying he's been awful.

Look, I'm a big Bradford fan - I was thrilled when the Rams drafted him, and I still think he'll end up being terrific. All I'm saying is that he seems to go pretty much unscathed by the media, even when the results are terrible (which they have been).

Tebow generates a significant amount of hyperbole on both sides. In amongst all of the talk that he's the worst football player ever is talk from other analysts about how his teams "just play harder for him." I heard John Lynch saying just last week that even his defense wants to go out and play harder for him, because he's so inspirational. What? It isn't like Tebow has overcome cancer or something. He's just a devout Christian. I don't see a whole lot of inspiration in that.
