I glanced at them, and it's almost impossible for me to follow (I'm not a twitter guy). So it's actually a guy? Is that the deal?
Manti Te'o got ate by a catfish or something

OK, gotcha. So your point is that they weren't in it for the money at all, but were just doing it to mess with him?
That's even nuttier than doing it for money, really.

Edited to say yeah, I have no idea why they did it other than to be stupid and pull a prank. No idea why anyone would take it so far or be so stupid. But, I wouldn't questions humanity's stupidity and sometimes things snowball, perhaps this was one of them. Also, one of the tweets says they killed her off to follow or because of the movie Catfish.

One thing I've learned from this - I don't have very good twitter and social media reading comprehension skills. Socnorb alluded having this problem as well. twitter looks like greek to me as far as who is saying what. Every now and then I see my stepdaughter's facebook page up, and I think I might take a peek at it to see what she is up to on it - but after a few minutes I give up.
And this is Mr. Accountant - accustomed to reading gibberash.

Stories like this are why people shouldn't pretend to form well thought-out opinions before proper info is released.
It looks like Te'o was duped AND allowed the story to be milked beyond reason because, hell, why not? Everyone was slurping him, why call attention to the fact that the girlfriend was online only and make himself look like a tool?
All the backstory about having met the girl is easily explainable by Te'o having made it up to his dad and his dad talking about it to the papers. Te'o basically never said anything to the media about being in person with this girl - essentially it was lying by omission.
This whole story is ridiculous.

I was listening to The Score (670) Tuesday afternoon, and they were literally calling Te'o every name in the book, thinking that he had made this whole thing up. I mean, they completely trashed him, verbally. It was painful. I haven't listened to them since then, but I'm curious if they have apologized.

Even if he isn't complicit, he still lied and used the lie to pimp his heisman cause. He's at the very best, a deceitful, dishonorable, naive media whore.

Re: Manti Te'o is a liar
It appears they ended the scam when Catfish became a TV show and they started investigating these online relationships to find out if they are legit or not. This kind of think happens a lot apparently. I'm guessing they got nervous, as this would turn out to the biggest Catfish scam going, and tried to end it before they got busted on a TV show like that.Socnorb11 wrote:AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:I think you need to look at the tweets that JL has linked.Socnorb11 wrote:Of course she's real.
