Rant: Caring more about politics than baseball

So just so I got this right, someone is offended by what someone else wrote in a political forum after they voluntarily clicked on the thread and read it?

This is the USA, we can get offended about anything and everything, no offense.

I don't post as much in baseball talk as a lot of others because my understanding of the game just isn't on par with most of the other posters. But I read almost every topic from beginning to end.

I post in Social a lot, and of late, quite a bit in the political topics. I tend to do so more here than anywhere else because of the caliber of posters that represent all sides of the topics at hand. Yes, the board leans left. But there is a balance that exists here that doesn't elsewhere. It's the relative civility that others have mentioned. Even though it gets heated sometimes, there isn't even 1/10th of the nastiness here that you get in public message boards and comment sections. I get so disheartened by what I see in those comments. By and large, I don't get that same feeling here, even when we're debating something very heated. And I appreciate the hell out of that.

I agree, the comments on facebook and other message boards are horrible. Folks trying to say the most terrible things they can think of just to piss other people off.

I don't have a facebook reference point, but I can guess that you are right.

I don't think it's about Facebook as it is about the comments sections of Internet news stories. If you ever read an online newspaper or any article then went down to the comments section you will see what he's referring to.

I don't read the news so I'm good there too. I get virtually all my news and a daily Spanish lesson from the Buenos Dias America podcast. Listen to it every morning on the way to work.

Go to StlToday.com and look up any comment section related to Ferguson, or crime, or the city/county merger. Bunch of racist mother [expletive].

I think it is. It's just that it's politics playoff season and baseball isn't doing [expletive] for another week, so it'll get better from here.

The offseason is like 5 months long. What are we gonna do, spend 150 days talking about Jed Gyorko? The nice thing about a general purpose message board is that people can suggest any topic they want, and everyone can either participate or not, based on their level of interest.

When baseball comes back, there will be more focus on baseball topics. I guess we could just shut down GRB the day the Cardinals are eliminated and take it out of mothballs during spring training, but I don't see the point.

I know it's not everyones cup of tea, but November is the AFL, Dec-Feb is the Caribbean leagues, college baseball starts this weekend... There is baseball all year. Last year I know I had a winter league thread but it wasn't generating much interest.

Me too. Between my typing skills (fast but not all that accurate) and my spell checker and rushing at work it's awful. And I don't know why I don't check before I hit submit, but I don't. I really have a better command of the language then I let on here. I'm actually ashamed of myself in threads where sigh is in. I feel like I'm just ruining his day.

Don't go there, unless you really want to lose faith in humanity - I never had any faith in humanity, so it just proves my point, people suck.
