Then again, that's basically what many Republicans believe in....personal responsibility.
Wait, personal responsibility like: find your OWN damn way out of New Orleans when the levees break, find your OWN way to pay for that expensive heart medicine ?

Or personal responsibility: obstruct justice, commit perjury and lie to federal investigators then have your prison sentence commuted by the president? Or send the military into a war and then when there are no WMD, just throw your hands in the air and say "whoops"?

I kind of like that idea of personal responsibility!

And speaking of hurricanes, I have to commend Bush and Cheney for canceling their trips to the RNC. It's great to see that these two are so caring and so compassionate about the ensuing disaster that they would put off a celebration to take care of a region that will no doubt be destroyed. But golly, you'd almost think there's an election going on this year.

I can't tell if you were posting it seriously or sarcastically...

power in population sort of stuff...

we do know that Fascism isn't the way to go right? just like socialism and communism?

Palin can believe all she wants as long as she doesn't try to make political policies that enforce those beliefs on others...

it's the First Amendment...

You mean the people who were told that there was no need to evacuate because the levees wouldn't break?

Hindsight is 20/20. The general consensus was that the WMDs were there; the debate was whether or not war was really necessary and if oil had anything to do with it.

I kind of like that idea of personal responsibility!

Fascism is the extreme right; communism is the extreme left. Neither side is perfect.

if people like Palin have their way, and if they do indeed make policies on the things they believe, then we will have a Fascist government...

like I said, though, hopefully they know they can believe that stuff about birth control and gay marriage and such all they want as long as they don't try to make policies based upon these beliefs, as that would violate the First Amendment...and create a Fascist government that thinks it's here to uphold the purity of it's people, and not just govern them...

I'm just afraid of becoming the Christian/Evangelical counterpart to countries like Iran...we would be no better than they...

From page 16 of the above newsletter:
“birth control counselling and abortion often indirectly contribute to the victim’s sense of shame, guilt, and blame for what is happening, since she is told to “take control” and “be responsible” for her “sexual activity,” implying that this situation is indeed within her power to control.”
I know partisans have their talking points, but that read pretty strangely. That quote has nothing to do with Republicans' desire for personal responsibility. The article in the newsletter describes a 12-yo girl who was the victim of sexual abuse. She most definitely was not in control of the situation, and then went to a Planned Parenthood clinic that didn't bother to ask what a 12-yo girl was doing there, and instead gave a knee-jerk response of handing out condoms and scheduling an abortion (she also wasn't pregnant).

Abuse victims tend to think the abuse is their fault or that they deserve it. The fact that she went anywhere is significant.

As if that negates the fact that the federal government bungled the hurricane almost as badly as the war, then our president had the motherhumping gall to commend "Brownie."
Hindsight is 20/20. The general consensus was that the WMDs were there; the debate was whether or not war was really necessary and if oil had anything to do with it.
LOL I love this response. "Well, everyone believed it was there, so it's not TECHNICALLY the Bush Adminstration's fault."

And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's OK to use hindsight being that 4,100 members of our military have been brought back in caskets for a war that our president has yet to publicly admit has been a massive failure on every level possible.
