I agree about Altidore, but I really want to chalk it up to youth. He can make the great pass every now and then, but basically his instincts are awful.

It was really frustrating to watch how Argentina worked the ball around so well and took smart runs. When Jozy gets it he usually just runs straight into a defender.

He's been a professional for 5 years. Great players, which we all know Jozy has the physical gifts to be, always show their soccer instincts early . 18 year old Leo Messi was still a genius. Juan Agudelo, from the same youth and professional development system, shows more maturity and better instincts than Jozy who is 4 years older.

Well, that can certainly be true and is true for truly gifted players. But, Jozy's never going to be a Messi. He just isn't gifted in that way. I guess I just assume that a young player can learn to play smarter. A smarter, more aware Jozy is a great American player. Who knows. I'm just not going to give up on him yet at age 22. He's probably got at least ten more years of professional ball in him. His talent might have already peaked out, but hopefully his soccer IQ hasn't.

Agudelo is on my watch list now, much like Jozy was at this point 2-3 years ago. I hope you're right about him.

Altidore sucks. For all his physical gifts, he's not good at soccer.
Another reason I love soccer, as well as baseball, boxing, etc it comes down to Skill and Will. Size is almost irrelevant.

As someone who has not watched a lot of soccer, that is my response. Much moreso that "Holy [expletive], what a goal!"

He was thinking the odds of the guy receiving that pass and scoring 1 on 1 with the keeper from 10 yards is probably higher than some guy volleying the ball over his head and in from 60 yards. If he had to do it over again though, he probably could have done a little better than a diving header to the middle of the field.
