The point is that springs absorb and return energy more efficiently than human connective tissue. It's a slippery slope argument, and the IOC's criterion isn't objective enough.

As long as they go through a process like thiwhere they argue the merits of the particular artificial legs and not just the idea of a racer having them--each time this comes up (which could very well be never again), I really don't see it as a very big deal.:

But it's hard to argue with anyone who says it's just not the same sport. And I was happy they banned those speed suits in the pool.
