OH.MY.GOD.
A kick in the balls would be pretty nice right now, actually.

Miz missed FG, and SC wins it in OT. Miz loses after leading by 17 in the 4th.

That missed FG (or the other one) was our national title aspirations going bye bye.

Those were never realistic to begin with, although we still control our destiny to the SEC title game and the winner of that always gets to play for the championship. So it's still technically in play.JCShutout wrote:That missed FG (or the other one) was our national title aspirations going bye bye.

I figured if we won out and beat #1 Alabama (ranked 5th or 4th), we would be in. Sure a long shot, but its so damn hard to luck into a top 2 seed at the right time in ncaafb. I don't see us jumping from 12 or wherever we may be, to the top 2 if we beat Alabama in the title game, sec or no. (Just like Oklahoma didn't jump to 1/2 after beating us at #1 in 2007.)cardsfansince82 wrote:Those were never realistic to begin with, although we still control our destiny to the SEC title game and the winner of that always gets to play for the championship. Yeah even though winning the SEC generally gets you into the BCS Championship game it doesn't mean it's a foregone conclusion. If Mizzou beat Alabama in the SEC title game but Oregon and Florida State were both still undefeated they would still go to a BCS bowl game just not the championship game.

Florida State isn't going to be undefeated, so you don't have to worry about that. And 1-loss Mizzou with a win over Bama is going to get the nod over Ohio State beating whatever homage to the Mountain West they call their schedule this year. That said, I never really considered Mizzou part of the national title chase. I was very excited for their high ranking and they deserved it, but October is too early with that many landmines still to go, with a backup QB in to boot.
Today was a bad day.

What the hell happened in that second half? I missed big chunks of it watching the Cards. It felt like the whole team went into prevent defense mode. Obviously that missed FG in regulation was huge, but that never should have made it to OT either way. I should probably just stop thinking about it at all.Transmogrified Tiger wrote: Today was a bad day.

Mauk had more freshman moments today than in the Florida game, so the offense tried to play keep away in the 4th quarter. This isn't a terrible strategy when you lead by 17 points in the 4th quarter at home with an erratic RS Freshman at the helm, but to me they got really predictable. They didn't need Mauk zooming it down the field down the stretch, but they needed to make him a threat to make some type of play. The 3rd down and 2 where they run blitzed Josey was that whole quarter in a microcosm. No fear of Mauk making a play, and the play calling was happy to confirm that.
Steve Spurrier also made his money today with his play calling and decision to bring in Shaw. Thompson would have killed at least one of those scoring drives with his inaccuracy, and the repeated screens put the Mizzou line in the worst spot, too tentative to get to the QB or be able to truly disrupt the screens.
