I was surprised to see Goold even mention that.MrCrowesGarden wrote:I don't believe Fowler is going to get an opt out.

Of course he wants a [expletive] opt-out clause.Fat Strat wrote:Goold on Fowler -- "Money isn't the issue. Opt-out years. Age at end of contract. Length of contract" are the deciding factors."

Pretty soon the Brad Thompsons's of the world will be getting opt-outs.

It won't happen. I really think Goold is wrong here.Swirls wrote:Of course he wants a [expletive] opt-out clause.Fat Strat wrote:Goold on Fowler -- "Money isn't the issue. Opt-out years. Age at end of contract. Length of contract" are the deciding factors."

Re: Dexter Fowler
I don't think that Goold is saying that Fowler is demanding an opt-out or will demand one. I think he's just saying that opt outs could be a sticking point if, theoretically, Fowler demands one. Same with length. Really, Goold is telling us that price won't be a problem, which is a stance the Cards have rarely taken.MrCrowesGarden wrote:It won't happen. Re: Dexter Fowler
Why would an opt-out be an issue? He's 31. If we get two good years out of him and he wants to move on, wouldn't that be a good thing?

You're probably right, but that's a weird way of phrasing it.Fat Strat wrote:I don't think that Goold is saying that Fowler is demanding an opt-out or will demand one. Wonder if Fowler will demand a NTC... or a must-trade clause because Matheny (I kid, I kid).
