Has anyone seen this movie yet?
Did Lionsgate Bury the Political Thriller ‘Anniversary’ Because of Trump?

A thriller about an American family terrorized by the rise of an authoritarian government that uses drone surveillance, militarized police and internet control to demand obedience opened in 800 theaters last weekend, but you probably didn’t know it.

“Anniversary,” starring Diane Lane, Dylan O’Brien, Kyle Chandler and plenty of other name actors, was financed and distributed by Lionsgate. But with a storyline that may have felt too close to our political reality, it seems to have been buried by the studio in a political climate where government retaliation against media has become commonplace.

“The film was buried because it is incendiary,” said Frank Wuliger, a partner at Gersh who represents the director and was instrumental in getting the movie made. “To me, it’s a sign of the world we live in.”

Has anyone read the book by the same name? If so, how is it?
The newest 'Project Hail Mary' trailer shows Ryan Gosling befriending an alien in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's space epic

In the new trailer for Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling’s Dr. Ryland Grace is trying to save the world — and he’s getting lots of help from his adorable alien buddy Rocky.

The new trailer for the adaptation of Andy Weir’s acclaimed 2021 novel of the same name finds Earth in a very precarious position. The sun is dying, and Grace, a molecular biologist, is the only person who may be able to help. But though he agrees to go to space alone in hopes of saving the planet, he meets someone on his journey: a rock-looking alien who, Grace learns, is actually a “brilliant engineer.” Apparently, this alien — who Grace dubs “Rocky,” for obvious reasons — is trying to save his own planet. Can Grace and Rocky find a solution to “save the stars"?

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goddard, Project Hail Mary is already getting fans of the novel excited — particularly because of how close it appears to stick to the novel.

I just read "Project Hail Mary" and it was really good. I'm now cautiously looking forward to the movie, in the hopes that it doesn't disappoint.

Speaking of alien movies:
Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' trailer drops: What we know about the alien movie

What would you do if you discovered that aliens were real, and a lot closer than you’d imagined? Would you be awestruck or terrified? That’s the premise of Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, and in the trailer that dropped Tuesday, it’s clear not everyone knows how to handle the truth.

The Disclosure Day trailer shows Emily Blunt as a meteorologist who, midway through her weather broadcast, begins speaking in what sounds like an alien language. As the whole world watches Blunt’s newscast, it’s clear that something very, very strange is happening — not just with her, but with the universe at large.

The trailer cuts to other unsettling shots: There’s a crop circle, created by an unseen force. Colin Firth’s character’s eyes mysteriously turn from brown to icy blue. A deer appears to recruit a child in her bedroom, before they walk with other animals to a house emanating a bright light. What appear to be government officials race around in black cars.

I just watched "Fackham Hall", nice to see such an English comedy get a (limited) cinema release over here.

It was...fine? Some of the good jokes went by too fast, and a lot of bad jokes went on forever, but I dug enough of it to not be annoyed by it.

When people go to see this movie, they'll get a complimentary gallon of nostalgia with their ticket. I'm not sure how it tastes on popcorn, though:
‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer: Nicholas Galitzine Powers Up as He-Man and Battles Jared Leto’s Skeletor

He has the power. Amazon MGM has released a trailer for “Masters of the Universe,” Travis Knight’s live-action adaptation of Mattel’s “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” animated TV series. Starring Nicholas Galitzine as the titular sword-wielding, musclebound He-Man, “Masters of the Universe” follows the hero as he battles to save his planet Eternia from Skeletor (Jared Leto) and his minions.

Galitzine and Leto are joined by Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, James Purefoy as King Randor, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw and Sasheer Zamata as Suzie. The cast also includes Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Hafthor Bjornsson, Kojo Attah, John Xue Zhang and Christian Vunipola.

Oscar nominations came out today:
2026 Oscar nominations announced

Revealed Thursday morning by Academy Award-nominated Color Purple star Danielle Brooks and Emmy nominee Lewis Pullman, the 2026 Oscar nominations fall amid a contentious awards season that has seen major contenders enter — and bow out of — the race at large in recent weeks.

From early box office hits (Sinners) sustaining through the year to underground critical darlings (If I Had Legs I'd Kick You star Rose Byrne) generating major heat at recent awards shows like the Golden Globes, nominees trickled into the race from all corners of the movie industry.

Now, the Academy has unveiled the best films and performances of the year among its latest round of Oscar nominations, with Ryan Coogler's aforementioned vampire blockbuster Sinners shattering the record for most nominations for a single film in history, with 16 total. Paul Thomas Anderson's latest thriller One Battle After Another also dominated with multiple nominations, including for Best Picture, Best Director, and for most of its core cast (including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor).

The 2026 Oscars, hosted by returning comedian Conan O'Brien, air March 15 on ABC. See the full list of nominees for the 98th Academy Awards below.

Sundance prepares for its final run in Utah:
Sundance: Chris Pine, Jenny Slate and Judd Apatow Kick Off Bittersweet Opening Night of Final Park City Edition

“We are sad it’s the last Sundance in Park City, but we will see what Colorado is all about,” Judd Apatow said at Thursday’s opening night premiere of the documentary “Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story.”

The director vocalized the uneasy feeling that many festival-goers were experiencing as they headed up the mountain one last time before Sundance departs for Boulder in 2027. The festival has been under financial pressure since COVID forced its organizers to cancel two in-person editions — and as the indie film business it celebrates struggles to draw crowds. Colorado is offering tax breaks and financial incentives, but it’s hard to leave the place that filmmakers have called home for more than 40 years.

F1 was really stupid. One of the 10 best movies according to the Oscars, though.

The premise of finding an old, washed up but never proven, bankrupt, drunken (but gorgeous) gambler to rescue a team was interesting. Joe Black’s idea to compete was like if a baseball team’s whole strategy was ARod knocking the ball out of the first baseman’s glove with “the natural swinging arms of running.”

And the commentary of the races was beyond elementary. Silly. But actually, that part was pretty useful for me as someone who is gaining interest in the sport. I’ve since started watching the Netflix doc series. Movie prepared me for the Middle East sports washing I’ll find plenty of, too.

Mostly I just wish I was a kid watching Mighty Ducks still. I don’t remember being so hung up on everything.

I thought the whole time Billy Beane was going to die in that last race for sure. Did he? Well, I guess you’ll have to watch.

I watched "Destination Wedding" over the weekend. Well, I watched part of it. I finally had to turn it off. As someone who doesn't get the time to see movies very often, that's really saying something that I felt compelled to not see it through to the end.

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are the two main stars, and for the duration of my viewing, they are the only two actors in it who have dialogue. It clocks in at under 90 minutes, but I think I made it to 60 minutes before pulling the plug.

It felt like a really bad Hallmark movie... and I'm not a fan of Hallmark movies. I strongly do not recommend.
