Republicans are about to roll out a new talking point which is "Obama has only worked 143 days in the Senate." There's no way for me to check this right now because a Republican strategist put this out and did not cite anything.

I saw my first McCain bumper sticker today.
While guessing, and trying not exaggerate, I'd say the ratio of Obama bumper stickers to McCain bumper stickers I have seen in the metro Portland area is now 275:1. Really.

He's thinking about making a speech at the Brandenburg Gate while he's in Germany. These grand gestures towards presidentiality are silly, premature, and arrogant.

It may warrant its own thread, but i'm really curious what jesse jackson's accidental "crude and hurtful remarks" about obama are.

I was going to reply to GKs post about Obama speaking there not being that big of a deal because the Bradenburg Gate doesn't have the significance it once had. And for Germans, I doubt it's a big issue either as Obama's own "significance" is still relatively small. Americans don't really care about their important guys speaking at an unimportant location, and Germans don't really care an unimportant guy speaking at their important location.

That said, I'd advise him against speaking there myself.

You sorta have to visit Berlin to get a real feel for it, but it's kinda like Germany's Arc d'Triumph, though not nearly as massive in scale. In other words, it's a large gate framing a major street running through Berlin. The larger symbolism came from when the Berlin Wall was constructed right in front of the Gate, giving the very visual representation of a closed door from one side of Berlin to the other.

I differ from maddash. I'm fairly certain the Germans still care quite a bit about the Gate. Though I do agree that Obama speaking there doesn't have any particular symbolism. Mostly, it's just a nice place to hold a public rally in Berlin, though there are others (in front of the cathedral, in front of the Reichstag, etc.)

Yeah, just to clarify, I'm saying it doesn't have the significance to Americans it once did - to the Germans sure. Germans care about the Brandenburg but not Obama, Americans care about Obama but not the Brandenburg - is what I meant to say.
