Not that I didn't think this before, but why does it take 3 guys to talk about one team's SEC season? Same goes for cable news on the occasion I see that. Sometimes it's up to 5 people speaking on a subject and nobody gets a cogent, fully explained thought expressed. I don't miss flipping by that (or flipping in general).

Yeah, I'm about 1.75 years in and I caught about 2.5 minutes of Stephen A Smith on ESPN during the NBA playoffs when I was somewhere in public and I thought I was going to have an aneurism.Jocephus wrote:i know that "sensation" too. its been about 9-10 years for me without cable and i dont miss it for a second.ghostrunner wrote:I'm about 2.5 years into this (sorta*). Also the other day I got in my car and it was on ESPN radio and I heard Colin Cowherd for like 10 seconds and almost died then too.

It's been about 4 years for me and I agree it is jarring. I also noticed I'm not always "up" on all the new up-and-coming pundits. More than once I've had a conversation that went something like:
Friend: "Did you hear that pundit so-and-so said XYZ sensational comment?"
Me: "No, is that guy a big deal or something?"

Re: Cutting the Cable/Satellite Cord
another thing that happens to me is that people will be talking about a show and im just like "thats a show? really?". im genuinely confounded. its hard for me not to come off as kind of arrogant i suppose but when i hear some of these ideas or reality shows im just stunned that people continue to watch them, even if they are aware its mindless. and i'm not saying im utilizing my time so much more wisely than them but still, im just amazed at what is considered entertainment on some of these channels.

By my estimation, I've saved about $1500 by cutting the cable/satellite cord. So....there's that.

Commercials is what I notice being "behind" on. I catch some on Hulu but that's about it. Last year people were going "hump-DAY" and I had no idea what that was.pioneer98 wrote:It's been about 4 years for me and I agree it is jarring. My kids never see them, so they think they're great when they go to their grandparents' or someone else's house.

I was paying $210/mo for Uverse, now I have Charter internet for $30/mo and it's twice as fast. I've bought a couple of media players, a new monitor, shared some services with friends and family, and figured out some things like Hola and Plex. Now my setup is kicks the [expletive] out of cable and it's like 1/5th the price.

Have y'all figured out a way to get around the blackout zones on MLB.tv yet? Baseball is my big hangup keeping me plugged in.

Use the hola plugin on Chrome. I think. I haven't tried to watch a local game here all year. It worked last year.
But for the love of god hulu. Sign up some new advertisers. Because for like 3 months you get the same ad on every single show.
"What do you want to do this year."
"I want to see more concerts."
"Well get this pay-as-you-go cell phone and LIVE THE LIFE BUDDY!!!!"
I love hulu. I wake up and have last nights Colbert, Daily Show, Fallon, Meyers on in the background while I'm making coffee, playing with the dog, etc. @midnight when it's on. This is how I know internet memes, which still confuse me as someone now in his 40s.Commercials is what I notice being "behind" on. I catch some on Hulu but that's about it.
